KaynaşClubTalkwithÇigdemYüksel

Suzan Yücel will have a conversation with Çiğdem Yüksel, whose work is currently on display at the Fotomuseum Rotterdam. The exhibition focuses on the untold stories of the first generation of women from Turkey. The book Je moest eens weten (You Should Know) and the exhibition of the same name by photographer and visual artist Çiğdem Yüksel bring the stories of these women to the forefront and give them a lasting place in Dutch history.

During the Kaynaş Club Talk, we will learn more about the background of this exhibition, the working methods of Çiğdem Yüksel, who is known for her engaged, committed, and innovative approach. Why was it so important that this exhibition took place at this very moment? Çiğdem Yüksel herself says the following:

Çiğdem Yüksel: “I realized how much I missed images that truly reflect the story of the first generation of women from Turkey, like my grandmother. An archive that is representative, where my generation and the generations after me can go to see who these women were and understand where our story in the Netherlands began. If we don't quickly add to our visual heritage, this history will remain invisible. These women are aging, time is running out.”

About Kaynaş Club

Kaynaş, pronounced as 'kay-nash,' is the Turkish word for "coming together" or "blending." This one-day festival provides the perfect stage for musical fusion. Melkweg and EBB Music seamlessly bring together ancient and contemporary sounds. Beloved folklore and traditional music come to life in intriguing interpretations of today. Musically, this manifests in brilliant psych folk, mesmerizing saz melodies, and electronic beats.
