During ADE, Melkweg presents the premiere of The Saga of Sage - Mission 1: Defrost. The missions in The Saga of Sage are immersive virtual concerts that take place in the metaverse using innovative multi-user VR technology.
A dome on a frozen planet. One mission crew with 12 passengers. A pulsating sound, an invitation to explore movement while the ice starts to melt. The music grows, as we dive into an experience that makes us wonder how we process the things we live through. And how we let go of what needs to go. All the while melting and melting and melting, as we dance.
Together we explore the story of Sage: a recollection of experiences, sketches of memories of a journey in search of home. As the earth becomes perhaps uninhabitable, and is more and more divided through violence, polarisation, politics - where do we belong? In this first episode we travel through a frozen world, accompanied by music of the Berlin-based electroacoustic music ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick. The planet tells us of loss, of mourning and of letting go. The Saga of Sage Mission 1 is an embodied experience that brings us as close as we can to Sage’s explorations of what it means to belong, to be human in an ever changing world where the feeling of what home is becomes more and more unfathomable.
The immersive virtual concert series The Saga is a co-production of WeMakeVR and M31 Foundation. Presentation in collaboration with Melkweg and Amsterdam Dance Event.
This virtual concert can be visited during multiple time slots. When purchasing a ticket, you buy a ticket for a time slot.
