The Favourite (2018)

Especially for Pride & Prejudice, we have selected three great queer period films addressing themes of forbidden love, homosexuality and the female gaze. Two films will screen in the Cinema and the series will conclude with a free screening at the Vondelpark Open Air Theater!

The Favourite is a period comedy drama from the Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos - whose new film Poor Things comes out this fall - about two ladies of the court competing for - yes what really? - but mostly for sexual favors with Queen Anne (Olivia Colman). The film is a unique take on a classic costume drama and a modern masterpiece for good reason. Colman won an Oscar for Best Actress.
