As part of the very first edition of Zero Waste Week in the city, commissioned by the Municipality of Amsterdam, we are screening the short film ‘Surfer TO-GO’ at our Cinema.

Surfer TO-GO is the story of an extraordinary expedition from Brussels to Amsterdam on a surfboard made of disposable cups - an activist surf film about concrete change and hope. A plea to replace disposables with reuse, not just different material but a different mind-set and behavior!

Merijn Tinga is the Plastic Soup Surfer. After he calculates that every morning in the Netherlands a row of disposable cups is discarded equal to the distance between Brussels and Amsterdam, 385 km, he takes action. He wants change. To call attention to this, he builds a surfboard from litter cups and surfs on it over rivers and sea from Brussels to Amsterdam: the Mission Reuse expedition. Along the way he speaks to ordinary people and meets mayors, industry representatives and even EU vice president Frans Timmermans. He calls for change and discovers hope.

SURFER TO-GO is the film about the summer 2022 expedition. The adventure, the setbacks and an insight into the whimsical route to a more sustainable future with recycling. A film about people who want.
