Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise (1987)

In the kingdom of Honnêamise, Shirotsugh dreams of becoming a pilot. When he gets to work in the Royal Space Force, he is inspired by the idealistic Riquinni and decides to become the first astronaut. As technical problems and political conflict threaten to thwart the mission, Shirotsugh must show perseverance to break free from Earth.

Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise was the debut film by Studio Gainax, which would later make its definitive breakthrough with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although production was chaotic and the film was not a success upon its original release in Japan, Royal Space Force has since built up a loyal fan base. This epic space opera deserves to be seen on the big screen.
