Rock Chicks - I Am Not Female to You (2023)

IN-EDIT is back! From 11 to 21 April the sixth edition of the music documentary festival takes place at the Melkweg. Again many great music films will be screened this year, like this documentary about female pioneers in rock 'n' roll, with Q&A!

Discover the hidden history of rock 'n' roll through the lens of Rock Chicks - I Am Not Female To You. This exciting documentary takes you on a journey through time where the queens of rock 'n' roll reign, not just the kings. Explore how the musical legacy of Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta, Big Mama Thornton, and others lives on in the legends of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Despite their monumental contributions, the influences of these female pioneers often seem forgotten in the history of rock music. But this film brings their stories back to life, with a focus on their fearlessness and determination. From Linda Gail Lewis to Suzi Quatro, each of them tells a unique tale of courage and perseverance, calling for recognition as essential players in the rock genre.

After the film, a Q&A with director Marita Stocker will take place.
