MILK SOLO: Prins de Vos

MILK

For the photo series ‘On Hold', Prins de Vos photographs trans and non-binary people who are on the waiting list for gender-affirming care. In the Netherlands, the average waiting time for a first appointment is three years.

With this series, Prins captures the seemingly endless wait. Their goal is to create a realistic portrayal of the people behind the statistics. Currently 7000 people in the Netherlands are waiting for their intake appointment at a gender clinic.

Although this community is frequently discussed in the media and widely debated, those directly affected rarely get the chance to share their own stories. The photo series led to a short documentary, which further deepens ‘On Hold’ since it gives them the space to also speak for themselves.

Prins de Vos' photography is an ode to the queer community and to their friends and family. For the series they traveled all across the Netherlands, yet their work always carries an ode to Amsterdam.

'Mika' a photo from the series, earned Prins de Vos recognition as one of the winners of the 2025 World Press Contest.
