Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes (2023)

IN-EDIT is back! From 11 to 21 April the sixth edition of the music documentary festival takes place at the Melkweg. Again many great music films will be screened this year, like this documentary about the jazz drummer and cultural activist jazz drummer Max Roach.

The epic and tumultuous musical and personal journey of towering 20th-century artist – Afro-American drummer and activist Max Roach. His role in the jazz revolutions of the 1940s and 1950s alongside luminaries like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Clifford Brown, his forays into the avant-garde and hip-hop experiments, his battles with personal demons, and his unwavering dedication to championing racial equality. Roach was resolutely convinced that music could, and should, be a weapon.

Melkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same time, such as concerts, club nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some noise pollution from other programmes during the screening.
