The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO) is a big band of 20 top musical talents. Composer, bandleader and trumpeter Maite Hontelé is the artistic director and conductor of the Orchestra in 2023 and 2024. On Sunday 22 December, Maite Hontelé's NJJO Goes Mambo + Cuba Special concludes, with a number of special guests:

Ramón Valle

Ramón Valle, born in Cuba but living in the Netherlands since the 1990s, is one of the greatest contemporary pianists and composers. Wherever he performs, Cuban pianist Ramon Valle impresses critics and audiences with his expressive, virtuoso style. He brings together jazz, classical, flamenco and Cuban music. Valle frequently plays at prestigious festivals such as London Jazz, North Sea Jazz, Havana Jazz and Montreux Jazz.

Maite Hontelé

Trumpeter and bandleader Maite Hontelé lived in Colombia between 2009 and 2018. A decade in which she released 5 CDs and performed many concerts around the world with her own Latin (jazz) band. The albums Déjame Así and Cuba Linda were nominated for a Latin Grammy. Cuba Linda won a Cubadisco award in 2019 for best international album and was on the list of nominees for an Edison Jazz/World in 2020.

Alain Pérez

Cuban bassist, singer and Grammy winner Alain Pérez is considered a musical genius and is an eminence in the salsa, Latin jazz and flamenco scene. That is extraordinary, for someone who is not from Spain but of Cuban descent. There is very little musically that Pérez cannot do. This became clear early on, as he became a well-known name before the age of 30 through his role as bandleader of legendary singer Celia Cruz.
