Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

Together with Kaboom Animation Festival, we are bringing the best anime to the big screen! This weekend, we're doing a special Studio Ghibli weekender, in celebration of the new film 'The Boy and the Heron'. We will screen no fewer than ten films by director Hayao Miyazaki, including a unique preview of his latest. Come and enjoy the best Ghibli together on the big screen! 

How good would life be if your only concern was getting the bakery's delivery to the customer on time, which you're flying to on your little broom because you're a 13-year-old witch? This is a big part of the story of Kiki's Delivery Service. Kiki is a little witch who journeys away from her parents for a year to become independent. During Kiki's search for a beautiful town, the perfect job and her own emotional maturity, she encounters a number of obstacles and must learn to overcome them. Here we also see Miyazaki's affinity for young, independent, female main characters again. The magic in this film has a more traditional approach and basically sticks to Kiki's ability to fly and talk to her cat Jiji. Also, keep your eyes peeled for some so-called Studio Ghibli Easter Eggs in this film.
