Io capitano (2023)

This day, not only can you come and vote in your favourite concert hall, but after fulfilling your civic duty, you can also watch films and dance at the brand-new festival sELECTION! Cast your vote for the European elections and then meet up-and-coming musical talent from all corners of Europe, or watch films about European identity and democracy in our Cinema, such as Io Capitano by director Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah, Dogman).

Inspired by myths and true stories, Garrone takes viewers on a deeply moving journey of two teenage boys, who leave their families in Senegal to pursue their dream of a better life in Europe. Their modern-day Odyssey takes them through the suffocating desert and across the tempestuous sea. They begin their journey as human beings, but soon transform into commodities for human traffickers where their dreams, hopes and ambitions must make room for a struggle for survival.
