Together with Heat, an agency that represents filmmakers, we present a bi-monthly movie night curated by their wide array of passioned creators, designed for everyone looking to connect and be inspired. Every edition will center around a unique host and their inspiring guests; they’ll select a main film that showcases what they are all about and motivates them within their creative field. And they will take you on a two-hour journey into their vision.
This edition is hosted by filmmaker Aramis Garcia Gonzalez, with Wong Kar Wai's 1994 "Chungking Express" as the main film - a kaleidoscopic look into the hectic (night) life of Hong Kong. Wong weaves together big-city life, Eastern culture, crime, love and the music of The Mamas and the Papas (California Dreamin') into an mesmerizing dream clip. In the very stylised film, two policemen both suffer from a broken heart. One fights his heartbreak with running, the other suffers so much from his girlfriend's departure that he does not notice that the snack bar girl Faye is madly in love with him. Chungking Express is an iconic work of the 1990s and the film that made Wong Kar Wai an instant film favorite. Anything is possible in Wong's gloriously filmed masterpiece, which the combination of canned pineapple and Mamas & the Papas‘ California Dreamin’ forever turned into the epitome of romantic longing.
