Together with Steppin' Into Tomorrow and Africadelic, we are screening this intimate documentary about 'the barefoot diva', global star Cesária Évora from Cape Verde. Her voice took her from poverty to stardom, but her only dream was to be free. The film combines archive footage, concert footage, interviews and footage of Cape Verde to create a powerful portrait and was one of the highlights of the last edition of IDFA.
Before the film there is a musical introduction by Dutch-Cape Verdean singer Lena Évora accompanied by pianist/guitarist Toy Vieira (who has collaborated with Cesária Évora!).
