18:30 Doors 19:00 Korte films

Nine unique short films, nine new visions. Broekies Film Festival brings together emerging filmmakers in a premiere night at our Cinema. Documentaries and fiction films, made as admission work for their future film school, now get the chance to be shared.

Karim - Ruben Amador
On New Year's Eve, tensions can run high in Kanaleneiland, the neighbourhood where Karim Ennahachi lives. Together with the city makers (a group of volunteers), Karim tries to ensure that residents go into the new year safely and connected. How does Karim inspire others to help with this?

Out of your head - Ruben Amador
In our individualistic society, connection between people seems increasingly remote. In this documentary, we see how people connect more or less with themselves and with others and what this does to them. How do people get more out of their heads into their bodies?

Tingling - Floris van Heusden
The film is set at the football club where Tom is a maverick and he does not fall comfortably into the group. Until one day his girlfriend Sarah drops by after training. The relationship between Tom and Sarah is difficult, Sarah obviously having the trousers on in the relationship. With the arrival of the nice-looking girlfriend at the club, Tom is suddenly welcomed into the team by his teammates. As the evening in the football canteen becomes increasingly cosy, and Tom begins to feel freer and easier with his teammates, Sarah notices her losing her grip over Tom. Through Sarah's attempts to regain control over Tom anyway, he slowly notices this, and it greatly affects their relationship.

Chester: The Chronicles of the Jester - Cas Gijsberts
Three bounty hunters moved from town to town, hunting criminals for gold and glory. One of them, a seasoned veteran, was about to retire. But on the night of his farewell party, a mysterious woman appeared. She placed a contract in front of him and spoke only one sentence: ‘Whoever signs, must track down Chester.’ Drunk and overconfident, he put his signature, not realising that this was the start of his most dangerous hunt ever. As they chased Chester, questions began to arise. Who was this man really? And why did it feel like they were the prey themselves?

Descent into the End Zone - Cas Gijsberts
Descent into the End Zone follows Jim, a talented musician struggling with a severe drug addiction. His bandmates and success reinforce his destructive behaviour, while he increasingly neglects caring for his younger sister Esmee. Esmee is the only one trying to save him and places him in rehab. When Jim escapes, Esmee confronts him with the hard truth. Eventually Jim realises that his sister is the only one who really cares about him, and together they decide that he will return to the clinic.

The Jubilee - Alana Haverkort
A short film about being stuck in a long-term relationship. Vera finds herself again in small moments of everyday life and tries to regain the control she has lost in her relationship. This turns out differently than she had hoped.

Tnawies - Toon Onikoyi
Tnawies Dian and Ruben have been inseparable since they met. The love between the boys is like never seen before. Both of them love to party and to end up lost without a coat somewhere outside only Dian has realised that Ruben becomes dependent on it. Ruben is addicted and uses so much that it affects the relationship between the two boys. The story continues that the boys get on an emotional rollercoaster about Ruben's process of rehab.

Rest - Toon Onikoyi
When gloria misses her her bus, her sister is immediately on hand to lecture her and play the big sister. This film depicts how important a sibling can mean to someone but also how tough it can be

Yoghurt Prince - Joris van der Putten
An online troll tries to get a craigslist seller to lug a fridge up sixty-six flights of stairs-despite not needing one.
