18:30 Doors 19:00 A Hiphop Minute (2025)
In 1986, a Dutch film crew led by Bram van Splunteren travels to New York to make a documentary about hip-hop. The presenter - a young Marcel Vanthilt - does not know which artists he will get in front of the camera. In the end, the team finds young rappers like LL COOL J, Run DMC and Grandmaster Flash. ‘Big Fun in the Big Town’ becomes a cult classic and inspires a lot of 'Nederhoppers', including young Belgian Pascal Garnier.
Garnier, now a rapper, DJ and filmmaker himself, has made a sequel to this legendary documentary thirty-five years later. In ‘A Hiphop Minute’, he combines original footage with new interviews and offers a raw, personal insight into the lives of hip-hop legends. The protagonists have grown older and wiser, but their eyes still twinkle when they talk about their Golden Age.
Big Fun in the Big Town can also be seen again at our Cinema on Monday, 10 February!
